Description
Under the new Managment of David Kong and a new look commitee, The NCDA is still aiming to raise funds for projects both here in Australia, for Sudanese refugees and migrants, and for The NCDA in Sudan to benifit the Sudanese People.
During the many years of conflict in South Sudan, education has been neglected as food and health concerns took precedent to save lives. The results have been an illiterate society while only a few found their way to Ethiopia and Kenya to access education as refugees. Despite the recent peace deal that ended the 21 years conflict, the instability in South Sudan continues to discourage Internal Displaced Person (IDP's) and refugees from returning home. UNHCR has been involved in bringing refugees and IDP's to the region from the refugee camps. The issue of returnees has created an urgent need to address the existing need for education.
Schools here do not have basic facilities like desks and books for some classes are not available. Class rooms are few and a majority of pupils learn under trees and they strain a lot since they have to write on their laps while sitting on the ground. In the few classes, pupils are usually congested and the effectiveness of a teacher is greatly reduced.
We can help in Australia by;
* Creating recreational programs for young people to effectively enhance their wellbeing.
* Evaluating the system of Education and then finding a way to help them understand the language and reduce unemployment.
* Help the Sudanese Refugees by establishing community centre that can enabling them to take responsibilities themselves and control of their own community interests.
* Enhance and empower new migrants to socialise and make them feel that they are an important component of their new country.
