Description

Friends of Frankston was formed in 2002 to encourage community participation in the changing face of Frankston. The years since have seen a growing awareness of the unsustainable way we live, and growing numbers of people wanting to do something about it.

 FoF host this website and promotes events it schedules on the site, this is open to any community group trying to attract interest.

Our public face are the 'Film Nights', compilation and distribution of "The Argus" newspaper and events orgainised in conjunction with Council ie  keynote speakers, film presentations, Permaculture workshops etc. and now this website.

We have strongly advocated at Council level for a meaningful sustainability framework to be applied across the "whole" of Council business.

We meet at the Uniting Church Hall, 16, High St, Frankston the 3rd Wednesday of the month, 7.30pm film nights are the LAST Wednesday of the month.

This is our theme for the year ;

How would you like your planet sir, with or without ice?

A combination photograph shows an image from 1928 (top) of the Upsala glacier in Patagonia, Argentina, contrasted with a 2004 photograph (bottom) of the same view. The pictures illustrate the extent to which climate change has caused the ice to melt away this century. Greenpeace campaigner Joris Thijssen, said: "Rising temperatures are causing glaciers to melt all over the world. Here in Patagonia, they are disappearing at a rate of 42 cubic kilometres every year - faster than anywhere else on earth. In both (1928 and 2004) the composition is made from three separate viewpoints to form a panoramic image
